Hello,
I wanted to write you a plain letter, no chapter attached this time.
When I started Bridget’s Girl, I wasn’t sure anyone would read it. A story about a Salem widow, a gold ring and the women who carried both forward is a quiet kind of book, and I’m a quiet kind of writer. I figured I’d be sending it to my family and a few stubborn friends. Family and friends did sign up, and I’m grateful to every one of them. But so did a large number of strangers, people who found the story on their own and kept coming back every week. Some of you even wrote to me or left a comment on the posts. I read every one of them, and they matter more than you probably know.
Bridget’s Girl is historical fiction based on a real person and real events. Bridget Bishop was the first person hanged in the Salem witch trials in 1692, and I built the story on the historical record. I’m trying to give the women around her a voice without making anything up about what actually happened. I wrote every word myself, and having you read along tells me it’s worth the work.
Book One of The Oliver Inheritance is free, and it will stay free. The only way it grows is when readers like you pass it along. So here’s my small favor:
Forward this email to one friend who loves history, a good story, or a strong woman who doesn’t back down.
Share the link on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or wherever you spend your time: www.BridgetsGirl.com
If you’d rather listen than read, the story is also a podcast. Search for “Bridget’s Girl” in Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
You don’t need to write anything fancy. “I’m reading this, you might like it” is plenty. One friend at a time is how this will find its readers, and I’d be grateful for every one you send.
Thank you for being here at the start of this, and for trusting me with a little of your week. The next part is on its way.
Gratefully,
Stephen Ango Oliver
